Glass blown objects are designed and produced in the studio.
Three ovens are necessary to produce one glass object.
The Method
A hollow metal rod is used to gather a ball of glass in the furnace. The artisan blows into the rod and shapes the glass using wooden and steel tools. Colour is added a little at a time during this process. When completed, the object is stored overnight in the annealing oven to remove the stress. Once the object has cooled completely, the finishing stage begins during which the glassblower uses grinding and polishing tools to level and smooth the base of the object.
A viewing area allows visitors to observe the artisans at work and the equipment they use. As well, visitors can learn from interpretation panels that describe the glassblowing process in detail. An enriching experience for the whole family!
